Today’s post is a little risky because it’s about something I’m trying to figure out. So like most of my posts, I don’t know what I’m talking about. Please bare with me. And if you have a comment, or something to share, please do!
I’m in Matthew.
They’re in the boat and Jesus walks out to them. Peter yells, if it’s really you, tell me to come out to you. So he does, then starts to fall.
Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” Matthew 14:31
So even though the crazy man got out of the boat and started walking before he took his eyes off Jesus and started to sink, Jesus says he had little faith…although it was more faith than the other men in the boat. And quite honestly…more faith than me.
But then later he says,
“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” – Matthew 17:20
I’m starting to think I don’t understand the size of a mustard seed. Or maybe I don’t understand what is faith, or what it looks like. Because I’m thinking you’re gonna need a whole lotta faith to do what Jesus says we can do.
Faith as small as a mustard seed, has got to make you look crazy. Peter didn’t even confess he thought Jesus was the Messiah until chapter 16. And that was after the fool tried to walk on water!
So what does faith, the size of a mustard seed, look like?
