I Will Show You Honor

“Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12

It is one of the Ten Commandments to honor your mother.

I will take you to get your hair done, during a time when I am able. I will call you when I can. I will bring the children when they ask to come see you and time permits.

I will not let you talk poorly of me in front of my friends and family. I will not let you put a hand on my kids. I will not feel sorry for you because you have pushed your loved ones away. I will not accept the rude remarks that come from your mouth as truth.

I will invite you to all the kids parties. You will be apart of all of their graduations and promotions. You will be informed of any health concerns or hospitalizations. You will be celebrated on your birthday.

I will make small talk with you about the weather and how you are doing, but I will not feel guilty because you are lonely. I will not feel shame for not dropping what I am doing with the kids, my husband or when I’m trying to catch a breath, when you want me to come help you fill out some papers. But I will as soon as I can.

I will listen to your grief. I will encourage you to make friends. I will give you hugs everytime I see you and say, “I love you” everytime we hang up.

It kills me that I show you honor, when what I really want to show you is love.
